Rudy Giuliani claimed he is working with “a very established law firm” to prepare lawsuits against House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff and Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib.
“I got the highest grade in constitutional law,” Giuliani, who serves as President Trump’s personal lawyer, told Yahoo News.
He said private lawyers are looking into public statements made by prominent Democrats to build the case that they were trying to “deprive [Trump] of civil rights” and participating in a “conspiracy to remove the president at all costs.” Giuliani would not disclose which law firm was working with him.
He also alleged Schiff was seeking to “inhibit me in my ability to defend” Trump.
Schiff, who has been spearheading the impeachment inquiry into Trump’s interactions with Ukraine, is facing criticism from Republicans for his statements about what he knew of the whistleblower after it was revealed he learned details about the CIA officer’s complaint before it was formally filed.
The whistleblower reportedly approached a House Intelligence Committee aide with vague details of what would eventually be written in the complaint. The aide then told Schiff some of what the intelligence official said but did not disclose the identity of the whistleblower.
Trump has since accused Schiff of helping the whistleblower write his complaint, but a lawyer for the whistleblower has strongly denied that claim.
“Schiff is hiding him under his skirt,” Giuliani said of the whistleblower. He also called Schiff a “nervous wreck” following the revelation that Schiff’s office had heard from the whistleblower before the complaint was given to the Intelligence Community’s inspector general.
Giuliani pointed to Tlaib’s recent comments about arresting White House officials who do not comply with subpoenas. Giuliani argued that her comments equated to witness intimidation.
