The search is on for a man who escaped a Bay Area prison.

Prison officials said Shalom Mendoza, 21, walked away from San Quentin State Prison Wednesday night.

Officials realized he had escaped around 9:30 p.m. They said he may have carjacked someone driving a Toyota Rav4 with California license plate number 6STZ502.

Mendoza was serving 5 years in prison for using a deadly weapon during a carjacking/attempted carjacking and evading or attempting to evade a peace officer while driving recklessly, prison officials said.

If you see him, call 911.
