Cincinnati Police said District 1 and CBS officers are on scene near the John Weld Peck Federal Building on 6th Street investigating an RV with the engine running.
Police said the van was reported to them by security and police at the Federal Building.
“Out of an abundance of caution, based on the incident in Tennessee we are using Explosive Detection K9s to clear the scene,” officials said. “At this time there is nothing else indicating there is anything else of a suspicious nature.”
An explosion rocked downtown Nashville early Christmas morning, an incident that rattled residents for miles and is being called “intentional” by authorities.
Fox19 reporters on the scene are reporting that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is on the scene. The Cincinnati Fire Department hazardous devices unit is also on scene.
As of 6:50 p.m., roads Downtown had reopened. Police had closed 6th Street, 7th Street and parts of Main and Sycamore due to the investigation.
The Federal Building houses the Internal Revenue Service, Corps of Engineers, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Alcohol and Tobacco Tax Trade Bureau, National Labor Relations Board and Department of Homeland Security’s Citizenship and Immigration Services, according to the U.S. government.
In Nashville, police were responding to reports of shots fired near Second Avenue and Commerce Street before 6 a.m. when they saw a suspicious RV outside a nearby AT&T building.
Officers alerted the department’s bomb squad, which was en route, when a “significant explosion” happened about 30 minutes later, Metro Nashville police spokesperson Don Aaron said. The force of the explosion knocked an officer to the ground.
Three people were hospitalized with injuries, police said. None are in critical condition. At least 20 buildings were damaged, Nashville Mayor John Cooper said.
Human remains have been found in the area, although it is unclear whether they are those of the suspect or a victim, according to The Associated Press.
