COLUMBUS, Ohio – The number of newly reported coronavirus cases on Thursday was 7,101, according to the Ohio Department of Health, a new record.

The previous record was just Tuesday, when there were 6,508. Before that, it was 5,549, which was just on Sunday.

In all, 274,457 coronavirus cases have been reported.

The number of deaths increased from Wednesday by 76 to 5,623.

The number of cases and deaths doesn’t mean they all occurred in the last 24 hours. There’s a lag between when the deaths occur and when local health departments send the information to the Department of Health.

The coronavirus case and death figures are both those confirmed through testing and those the state and federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention consider “probable,” which means they have COVID-19 symptoms and were around someone who was diagnosed with the coronavirus, among other criteria.

-756 intensive-care unit beds were occupied by COVID patients. These patients, combined with non-coronavirus patients, were occupying nearly 77% of ICU beds.

-The coronavirus testing positivity rate was 13.2% on Tuesday, the most recent day for the figure. The seven-day average is 10.6%.
