Microsoft estrenÃ³ hoy una versiÃ³n renovada de su portal de noticias MSN que fue sometido a un profundo rediseÃ±o en lÃnea con la estÃ©tica y funcionalidad de Windows 8, con el objetivo de atraer a un usuario mÃ¡s joven que busca experiencias personalizables.

El remodelado MSN estÃ¡ disponible en su versiÃ³n beta para todos los mercados, incluido Estados Unidos, LatinoamÃ©rica y EspaÃ±a, a travÃ©s de la pÃ¡gina web e incluye accesos directos a herramientas como Outlook, Office y OneDrive, y las redes sociales Facebook y Twitter.

Microsoft confirmÃ³ que Skype y otras redes sociales se incorporarÃ¡n prÃ³ximamente al servicio que llegarÃ¡ en forma de aplicaciÃ³n para telÃ©fonos y tabletas de cualquier ecosistema, una filosofÃa que se ha implantado en la compaÃ±Ãa desde el nombramiento de Satya Nadella como consejero delegado.

Carranza explicÃ³ que MSN evoluciona de ser un portal de noticias que competÃa con otros medios y se nutrÃa fundamentalmente de informaciones de agencias, a transformarse en “una plataforma de productividad” donde las noticias tienen una presencia prominente.

“Vamos con los medios de comunicaciÃ³n de la mano. Estamos cerrando contratos donde hay beneficio mutuo”, apuntÃ³ el directivo, que cifrÃ³ en mÃ¡s de 1.000 las alianzas establecidas con empresas informativas en todo el mundo para nutrir de contenidos de actualidad a MSN.

Cabeceras como The New York Times, The Guardian, Le Monde, agencias como EFE y mÃ¡s de 40 medios latinoamericanos como La NaciÃ³n, La Tercera, Semana, El Universal (Venezuela) y CNN ExpansiÃ³n (MÃ©xico) participan en esta iniciativa que se desmarca de los tradicionales sistemas de agregadores de noticias.

“Hay una labor de selecciÃ³n de contenidos intensa realizada por periodistas, no por robots. Mucha imagen y poco texto para llegar a un usuario mÃ¡s joven. El que quiera profundizar podrÃ¡ hacerlo”, detallÃ³ Carranza.

En funciÃ³n de la ubicaciÃ³n del usuario, MSN darÃ¡ prioridad a los medios locales -caracterÃstica que se puede modificar manualmente-, informaciÃ³n que se compaginarÃ¡ con historias de alcance internacional.

El nuevo MSN estÃ¡ integrado con el nuevo entorno de Windows 8 y accede a servicios de salud y bienestar, como el analizador de sÃntomas ya disponible, la colecciÃ³n de recetas de cocina de Bing, y la informaciÃ³n deportiva con marcadores a tiempo real.

“Es una experiencia que te acompaÃ±a en cualquier dispositivo”, declarÃ³ Carranza.

De acuerdo a fuentes militares oficiales, Corea del Norte parece estar preparada para lanzar un misil balístico Musudan de alcance intermedio en lugar de uno de largo alcance, aparentemente por no haber perfeccionado la tecnología necesaria, informó este lunes la agencia surcoreana Yonhap.

“No hay señales de un inminente ensayo de un misil balístico intercontinental (ICBM) de Corea del Norte. Pero estamos siguiendo de cerca cualquier nueva actividad del país ya que podría lanzar un IRBM en cualquier momento si el líder Kim Jong-un da la orden”, dijo un funcionario del Ministerio de Defensa.

Canadá: Ataque a mezquita en Quebec deja seis muertos

Seis personas murieron y otras ocho resultaron heridas en un tiroteo en una mezquita de la ciudad canadiense de Quebec durante el rezo de la noche del domingo.

Presidente surcoreano habló por teléfono con Donald Trump

El presidente en funciones y primer ministro de Corea del Sur, Hwang Kyo-ahn, dialogó por teléfono durante el plazo de media hora este lunes con el presidente de EEUU Donald Trump, por primera vez desde que asumió el cargo.

La Casa Blanca dijo en un comunicado que Trump reafirmó el “compromiso férreo” de defensa de Corea del Sur, incluida la provisión de disuasión extendida, y prometió tomar pasos para promover las capacidades de defensa conjuntas, dialogando sobre la importancia de la alianza entre los dos países.

El comunicado añadió que los dos líderes han acordado adoptar medidas para fortalecer las capacidades de defensa conjunta ante las amenazas norcoreanas.

CEO de Starbucks responde a Trump: contrataremos a 10.000 refugiados

Howard Schultz, el presidente ejecutivo de Starbucks, sumó su repudio hacia la orden ejecutiva del presidente Donald Trump en materia de inmigración y como respuesta prometió contratar a 10.000 refugiados en los próximos cinco años, informó Forbes México.

La orden ejecutiva de Trump, que impuso una prohibición mínima de 90 días a inmigrantes y refugiados de siete países de mayoría musulmana (Irán, Irak, Libia, Somalia, Sudán, Yemen y Siria, aunque los sirios han sido prohibidos indefinidamente), provocó varias protestas y cuestionamientos, inclusive de algunos ejecutivos como el caso de Schultz, quien envió una carta a los empleados de Starbucks el domingo por la noche.

Nuevos billetes en Venezuela entran en circulación este lunes, anunció Maduro

Nicolás Maduro, el presidente venezolano informó que a partir de hoy entran en circulación los nuevos billetes de 5.000 y 10.000 bolívares. Durante el programa Los Domingos Con Maduro, el presidente señaló que junto al billete de 5.000 y 10.000 bolívares también se comenzarán a incorporar progresivamente las monedas de 10 y 50 y 100 bolívares.

Según anunció en ese momento el Banco Central de Venezuela, “la ampliación del cono monetario hará más eficiente el sistema de pagos, facilitará las transacciones comerciales y minimizará los costos de producción, reposición y traslado de especies monetarias, lo que se traducirá en beneficios para la banca, el comercio y la población en general”.

Asimismo en su Twitter, el BCV indicó que los billetes de Bs. 2.000, 5.000, 10.000 y 20.000 cuentan con el elemento de seguridad “tinta ópticamente variable”.

IRS Adds To Confusion About Whether Seniors Have To File Tax Returns To Get Stimulus Checks – Forbes

Each year, about 64 million people collect Social Security benefits: about one family in four receives some kind of Social Security benefits. Of those, nearly 45 million are retired workers who receive, on average, $1,471 per month; another 3 million individuals receive benefits as spouses or children of retired workers.

Social Security benefits represent about 33% of the income of the elderly. According to the Social Security Administration, among the elderly, half of married couples and 70% of unmarried persons receive 50% or more of their income from Social Security. Nearly 21% of married couples and about 45% of unmarried persons rely on Social Security for 90% or more of their income.

Compare those numbers to just 25,972,101 taxpayers over the age of 65 who filed in 2018 (according to the most recent IRS data available).

That means more than 20 million taxpayers over the age of 65 do not file a federal income tax return each year – likely because their only source of income is Social Security benefits.

Initially, that wasn’t a barrier to getting stimulus checks. Congress provided Treasury with a mechanism in the CARES Act for relying on forms 1099-SSA (or RRB equivalent) to issue checks. That carve-out is in the same paragraph that gives taxpayers an alternative if they haven’t filed for the 2019 tax year (Treasury can refer to their 2018 tax return). I wrote about it – as did many others – and for days, the knowledge that they didn’t have to do anything further for benefits provided a sense of relief for seniors. Until Monday, March 30, 2020.

On Monday, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) posted a notice about the checks. The guidance included several sentences that seem contrary to the language in the law. Specifically, the guidance advised, “However, some seniors and others who typically do not file returns will need to submit a simple tax return to receive the stimulus payment.”

Tax professionals like me expected that some non-filers would have to file returns to receive checks. Otherwise, how would the IRS know how to reach them, or that they existed at all?

But seniors? Seniors for whom the Social Security Administration issues tax statements each year AND requires direct deposit for benefit checks? Why the need for more paperwork?

So far, the IRS isn’t commenting.

But, according to Chye-Ching Huang, Senior Director for Economic Policy at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, this wasn’t supposed to be the result of the legislation. The Treasury, she notes, was given “clear and explicit authority” to issue checks based on information available from the Social Security Administration.

Here’s the language from the law (downloads as a PDF): “if the individual has not filed a tax return for such individual’s first taxable year beginning in 2018, use information with respect to such individual for calendar year 2019 provided in— (i) Form SSA–1099, Social Security Benefit Statement, or (ii) Form RRB–1099, Social Security Equivalent Benefit Statement.”

That language was, Huang says, pretty clearly intended to avoid the mistakes of the past. In 2008, nearly 20 million taxpayers who were traditionally non-filers were required to file tax returns to get rebate checks. That’s why it took almost three months for some taxpayers to receive their checks.

At the time, then National Taxpayer Advocate, Nina Olson, criticized the move, testifying to Congress that it was unnecessary and burdensome for those in need (downloads as a PDF). Specifically, Olson noted in 2008 that there were “significant barriers that will result in substantially less than full participation by this target population.” Some challenges Olson noted were a lack of Internet access or discomfort obtaining tax information from the Internet; lack of mobility; including those who are incapacitated and under the care of guardians, conservators, or nursing homes and hospitals; fear of the IRS or losing benefits; and confusing messages. An estimated 3.5 million of those eligible never got their checks at all that year.

Olson suggested that it may be better to utilize another federal agency for payment delivery, querying at the time, “The 20.5 million Social Security and Veterans Affairs beneficiaries all receive payments from those agencies, and many of those payments are directly deposited into bank accounts. Why not find a way to let those agencies make stimulus payments to individuals without a tax filing requirement instead of requiring them to file ESP-only returns and having the IRS then send them paper checks?”

That was in 2008 when seniors weren’t been told to stay in their homes and tax offices were not shut down. Now, Huang notes, the current COVID-19 crisis has made it even harder for those people to file. Free tax centers for seniors, such as AARP Tax-Aide, are now closed. Tax professionals are staying home. And statistically, the elderly are among the most vulnerable to COVID-19. So why design a system where they may not be able to get financial assistance without exposing themselves to danger?

Throw in the potential for increased scams targeting the elderly, and it’s a recipe for disaster.

For its part, the IRS seems to think that the workaround is simply to wait, advising, “For those concerned about visiting a tax professional or local community organization in person to get help with a tax return, these economic impact payments will be available throughout the rest of 2020.”

For some seniors with bills to pay and food and medication to buy, that might be too late.

Requests for comment made to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), other members of Congress, and the White House were not immediately returned.

Canada Trucker Protest: Ottawa Shifts to Aggressive Gear in Policing ‘Freedom Convoy’ – The Wall Street Journal

OTTAWA—Police in the Canadian capital are trying to prevent protesters who have parked an estimated 500 heavy-duty trucks in the downtown core from obtaining fuel, food and other supplies in a stepped-up effort to end the 11-day demonstration against Covid-19 vaccine mandates.

Ottawa police were more aggressive in tactics over the weekend, as local politicians demanded an immediate end to the protest, organized by a group named Freedom Convoy 2022. The protest has clogged up traffic in the city and upended residents’ day-to-day lives. Protesters have vowed to stay in the capital until all governments in Canada drop mandates related to Covid-19 vaccination, as well as other economic and social restrictions.

However frustrated many of the faithful were by the meeting, high-ranking church officials said it had achieved a positive outcome.

Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo, the president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, said on Saturday that he was “very pleased,” even if specific action still needed to be determined.

At first, Cardinal DiNardo said, some countries did not want to admit that they had the same problems as the United States, Cardinal DiNardo said. But in the end, he said, he was impressed with the consensus that developed.

“This went far better than I think some of us had hoped,” he said. “Now you have the bishops all saying it’s ubiquitous.”

Tennessee Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn reacts to the IRS going after the gig economy and President Biden’s student loan handout on ‘Kudlow.’

President Biden’s administration rolled out an application site Friday for the White House’s student loan handout program.

The website, still in beta, allows individuals eligible for student loan forgiveness to submit self-certifying applications for the debt relief.

The website and debt forgiveness application process are currently being handled by the Department of Education.

The student debt handout, which was announced by the White House in August and is estimated to cost over $500 billion, qualifies those with a gross income of $125,000 as individuals or $250,000 for couples who file joint taxes.

Federal Pell Grant recipients are eligible to receive up to $20,000, while non-Pell Grant recipients are eligible for up to $10,000. These qualifications are listed as a disclosure at the top of the application webpage.

However, members of the Democratic Party further to the left than Biden have said the measure doesn’t go far enough, demanding full student loan forgiveness for all borrowers.

Borrowers on average in the U.S. owe $37,667 in student loans according to the Education Data Initiative, though amounts owed can vary based degree and location.

The administration also said it considers the plan to be “fully paid for” by 2022 revenue earnings alone, which are on pace to lower the U.S. deficit by $1.7 trillion.

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) — The latest information on this weekend’s winter storm that is expected to bring several inches of snow to the Metro area.

10:40 a.m.

CBL Malls says all four of their area locations — Mid Rivers Mall, St. Clair Square, South County Center and West County Center — will open at noon Saturday.

CBL Malls said department stores and restaurant hours may vary. They advise shoppers to call before heading out and check the malls’ website for more information.

In addition, Schlafly has announced it’s Cabin Fever event, which was scheduled for Jan. 12, has been postponed until Jan. 19 due to the “overwhelming amount of snow.”

Schlafly said those who cannot make the rescheduled date should contact them at events@schlafly.com and they will be issued a gift card for the amount of the ticket price.

9:15 a.m.

News 4’s Mark Griffin said drivers are experiencing delays on westbound I-44 past 141 because of a stalled semi.

In a tweet, he reported traffic was better than Friday night but there was still a backup in the area.

7:30 a.m.

The Phelps County Emergency Management Facebook page has announced that the eastbound lanes of Interstate 44 are closed at mile marker 257 until further notice.

The emergency management officials said eastbound Interstate 44 is blocked near St. Louis and eastbound travelers coming in fro Oklahoma should seek a southern route at Exit 82.

They advise drivers to expect six to eight hour delays near St. Louis.

6:50 a.m.

During a press conference Saturday morning, MoDOT official Bob Becker said crews made a lot of progress overnight.

In addition, the MoDOT official said they were ahead of the winter storm and did everything they were supposed to do but the snow came down intensely and roads got slick fast, making it impossible for them to keep up.

Becker said they started pre-treating two days beforehand and did a lot of work to ensure their people were ready to go. He said “no matter what you throw at it, that road will get slick at some point.”

Becker said MoDOT officials have been on conference calls statewide and the Governor’s office is aware of what has been going on.

While speaking with the local news stations, Becker said he wouldn’t do anything different with how MoDOT prepared for the winter weather.

Looking ahead to Saturday, Becker advised people to try and stay home to give crews more time to clear the roads. He said if you have to venture out to be careful and give crews plenty of room.

Around the same time as MoDOT’s press conference, the Illinois State Police Department took to Facebook to urge people to “STAY HOME today!” They are advising people to watch cartoons, enjoy a movie with your family, build a snowman, eat soup and catch up on laundry instead of hitting the roads.

The police department is deeming the day as #StayHomeSaturday and said to give emergency workers room to clear the roads: “The less traffic on the road, the better.”

6 a.m.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said one lane of westbound Interstate 44 in the Antire Road area has reopened to traffic.

Although traffic is slowly starting to move in the area, troopers are still asking drivers to avoid the area while they continue to get the remaining traffic through. They also advise that MoDOT is working to get more lanes cleared.

In Illinois, state police said a crash has blocked the left lane of westbound I-70 at mile post 30. They said the right lane is still open to traffic.

4:30 a.m.

After a night of snow and drivers stuck in traffic, News 4’s Marielle Mohs took to the roadways early Saturday morning and encountered a backup once again on Interstate 44 at Lindbergh.

MoDOT officials told News 4 many people are stalled on westbound I-44 because semi-trucks have stalled out or broken down in the snow. The truck drivers are waiting on tow trucks. They also said that some truck drivers are going to their cabins to sleep while they wait for help because it is federal law for them to get sleep before driving once again.

MoDOT said wreckers are out trying to tow the broken down tractor trailers and get things moving once again. They also said highway patrol troppers, tow truck drivers and MoDOT workers have been going up to semi-trucks and trying to wake up drivers.

According to MoDOT, their biggest concern during the early morning hours Saturday is eastbound from Gray Summit to Eureka. They said that area is experiencing the same problem there are just more trucks in the area.

In addition, Reporter Alyssa Toomey traveled about 18 miles from KMOV’s downtown station and counted nearly 50 stranded vehicles.

11:08 p.m.

We’ve already seen a range of 4″ to 8″ across the St. Louis metro with some lower totals south.

More snow accumulation comes through Saturday morning. Lighter snow, but still some accumulation is possible on Saturday afternoon and evening, especially west and northwest of St. Louis where the precipitation will be mostly snow. However, from St. Louis south/southeast we will see a mix, depending on your location it could be sleet, snow and/or rain. Also expect some melting as temperatures warm to 33.

10:30 p.m.

One lane of EB I-44 at Lewis Road near Antire briefly opened around 10:30 Friday. It was then shut down again when another truck jack-knifed. Eastbound lanes have been closed for six hours.

9:45 p.m.

I-64 westbound is closed at the Forest Park exit.

9:20 p.m.

MoDOT says they are going to be doing wellness checks on motorists stranded on closed highways. They said they are most focused on checking on those people trapped in Interstate 44 in St. Louis County and Interstate 64 in Chesterfield, where vehicles have been sitting since around 5:00.

In the wellness checks, a MoDOT spokesperson said they’ll make sure cars have fuel and occupants have water and food.

It is not known when those interstates will reopen.

The Missouri Highway Patrol Troop C, which responds to calls in the St. Louis area, recorded 595 calls for service, 183 crashes, and 269 stranded motorists as of 8:00 p.m. Friday.

Mizzou Athletics says the men’s basketball game scheduled for Saturday at South Carolina has been tentatively rescheduled for Sunday at noon. The university says a final determination will be made Saturday afternoon.

News 4 crews saw many accidents near Eureka.

Drivers on Highway 40 in West St. Louis County are having trouble navigating a hill in the eastbound lanes of the interstate between Timberlake Manor and Highway 141. KMOV crews near the area say some cars are stuck and cannot make it up a snow-packed hill, resulting in a serious traffic jam.

Drivers on Clarkson Road in Ellisville are having similar problems. The road goes over a large hill, and reports are coming in of cars attempting to drive over it spinning out and unable to make any progress on the road, leading to traffic backups and accidents.

Accidents are being reported across the St. Louis area as snow is beginning to cover area roads and interstates.

As of 2:00pm, Interstate 55 northbound was closed at Highway M in Jefferson County and a separate crash had lanes of Interstate 44 closed near Six Flags.

The 4Warn StormTeam has increased their projection for total snowfall amount in the St. Louis area.

Expect a prolonged period of snow through Saturday night. We are currently forecasting a large swath of 8″ to 12″, that includes much of the metro. We’ll still see significant amounts of snow south, but sleet and rain will mix in and help to lower snowfall totals there.

Airlines at St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) have cancelled 39 arrivals and 30 departures for Friday, January 11, 2019 in advance of Winter Storm Gia.

STL is expecting the winter weather to begin around 1:00 pm and continue through Saturday. The airport will remain fully operational and have crews on staff at all times to maintain airfield conditions and safety.

11:55 a.m.

MoDOT is advising motorists not to head out on the roads unless it is necessary.

In a news release, the company said drivers should limit travel if possible because as much as 10 inches of snow could fall in the St. Louis area and in parts of central and northeast Missouri.

The Illinois State Police Department has issued a winter weather travel advisory.

The department said motorists should plan ahead and take necessary safety precautions. If conditions become too hazardous, drivers are urged to exit the road and get to a safe location.

If a driver crashes during extreme weather conditions, the police department encourages motorists to exchange insurance and driver information. The department said motorists can file crash reports within 10 days to the Illinois State Police Department.

MoDOT is advising anyone who can leave work or school early on Friday to do so, saying they have “high confidence” today’s snow will impact the evening commute.

During a press conference Friday morning, MoDOT officials advised drivers to get off the roads early so crews could work to clear the roads. They said there will be over 200 trucks working on the roads.

According to MoDOT, crews will be focused on the main routes first so it could take longer to get to minor roadways.

MoDOT said the main thing drivers need to remember is to slow down and give themselves plenty of time and room.

Airlines at St. Louis Lambert International Airport have cancelled 25 arrivals and 20 departures for Friday, January 11,. Southwest Airlines & United Airlines have issued travel waivers for passengers flying to or from STL. Check the status of your flight with your airline before heading to the airport.

Several school districts and universities are closing early Friday, in order to get students home before roads begin to deteriorate.

The timing of the snow’s arrival in the metro area is becoming clear. The metro area should start seeing snowflakes around noon.

Precipitation will start off as a rain/sleet/snow mix west and southwest of St. Louis Friday morning and move into the metro around lunch time. Start times look a tad earlier, around 12-2 PM in St. Louis and earlier to the southwest.

We will see a pro-longed period of snow through Saturday night. We are currently forecasting a large swath of 5″ to 9″ snow. Isolated spots, including parts of the Metro area, may see totals higher than 9″. The bulk of that snow accumulation comes Friday afternoon through Saturday morning.

Derek Chauvin Receives 22 and a Half Years for Murder of George Floyd – The New York Times

In seeking a 30-year prison sentence for Mr. Chauvin, prosecutors had argued that the former officer’s actions had “traumatized Mr. Floyd’s family, the bystanders who watched Mr. Floyd die, and the community. And his conduct shocked the nation’s conscience.”

The killing of Mr. Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, by Mr. Chauvin, 45, who is white, led to a national reckoning over racial injustice in almost every aspect of American life. Calls emerged around the country to defund police budgets, remove statues of historical figures tied to racism and diversify predominantly white corporate boards.

The maximum sentence allowed under Minnesota law for second-degree murder, the most serious charge Mr. Chauvin was convicted of, is 40 years. Under Minnesota’s sentencing guidelines, though, a presumptive sentence for someone like Mr. Chauvin with no criminal history is 12.5 years. The jury, which deliberated for just over 10 hours following a six week trial, also convicted Mr. Chauvin of third-degree murder and manslaughter.

In recent weeks, Judge Cahill had ruled that four so-called “aggravating factors” applied to the case, raising the prospect of a harsher sentence. The judge found that Mr. Chauvin acted with particular cruelty; acted with the participation of three other individuals, who were fellow officers; abused his position of authority; and committed his crime in the presence of children, who witnessed the killing on a Minneapolis street corner on May 25, 2020.

Mr. Chauvin’s conviction was a rare rebuke by the criminal justice system against a police officer who killed someone while on duty. Officers are often given wide latitude to use force, and juries have historically been reluctant to second guess them, especially when they make split-second decisions under dangerous circumstances.

La policía de la ciudad alemana de Múnich se encuentra a la caza de los autores de un ataque realizado este viernes, que dejó al menos nueve muertos y numerosos heridos de gravedad.

Según reportó el portavoz de la policía, Marcus de Gloria Martins, son al menos tres los hombres que perpetraron el ataque en el centro comercial Olympia, aunque ninguno ha sido identificado.

Las autoridades investigan si uno de los fallecidos es uno de los autores del ataque.

La situación ha sido calificada por las autoridades de “alta alerta terrorista”. No obstante, el jefe de la Cancillería alemana, Peter Altmaier, dijo que todavía no está claro si se trata de un ataque terrorista o del accionar de un grupo de individuos.

A su vez, hasta el momento se desconocen los motivos de los autores y las autoridades dicen carecer de elementos para considerarlo de origen islamista.

Sucedió en la puerta de un McDonald’s ubicado en las inmediaciones de Olympia.

A pesar de que se habían reportado múltiples ataques también en el centro de la ciudad, eso parece haber quedado desmentido.

“La gente llegaba gritando”, le dijo a la BBC Dominik Faust, un residente local que cuando comenzó el ataque estaba en otro centro comercial cercano.

“Nos contaron que había un tiroteo fuera, entonces la seguridad cerró las puertas de este centro comercial y pidió a todos que fuesen al último piso. Aquí es donde estoy ahora, con otras 150 personas”, contó Faust.

En un video tomado por un transeúnte con un celular se puede ver cómo un hombre armado con una pistola sale de un McDonald’s ubicado en las inmediaciones del centro comercial y comienza a disparar.

A continuación se pueden escuchar numerosos disparos y se ve cómo la gente trata de cubrirse. Por lo que se aprecia en la grabación, el autor de los disparos no grita nada cuando comienzan el tiroteo.

En otro video de celular se ve a quien se supone es un atacante y que podría ser la misma persona, un hombre vestido con una camiseta negra en el techo de un edificio de aparcamientos y parece tener una pistola en la mano. En un momento dado parece que le gritan y él responde: “Soy alemán”.

Sam Pound, camarero de un bar irlandés de Múnich, describió la creciente sensación de pánico que se vive en la ciudad tras la noticia de los disparos en un centro comercial local.

“Estamos en la bodega del bar y nos sentimos bastante seguros, pero cuando sales a la calle se puede escuchar muchas sirenas y helicópteros”, relató.

“Si resulta que es algo completamente diferente, entonces es cierto que movilizamos demasiados recursos pero tuvimos el peor escenario cubierto”, agregó.

De acuerdo con la información de la policía, a las 17:50 hora local (15:50 GMT) recibieron una primera llamada alertando de un tiroteo en las calles aledañas al centro comercial Olympia y después en el interior del recinto.

Inside the Dramatic Raid That Took Down ‘El Chapo’ – ABC News

Incredible GoPro footage takes you inside the gunfire-heavy raid that ended drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s six months on the run.

The video, obtained from Mexican authorities, looks as if it’s from an action movie. The camera follows the armed men as they storm the house, unleash grenades and bullets, and search room to room.

The Friday raid was called “Operation Black Swan,” according to the Mexican show “Primero Noticias.” Authorities decided to launch the raid Thursday after they got a tip about where Guzman was sleeping, the show reported.

Seventeen elite unit Mexican Marines launched their assault on the house in the city of Los Mochis at 4:40 a.m., “Primero Noticias” said.

They were met by about one dozen well-armed guards inside who were prepared for a fight, the show said.

The Marines moved from room to room, clearing the house. Upstairs they found two men in one room and found two women on the floor of a bathroom. All were captured, “Primero Noticias” said.

After 15 minutes, the Marines controlled the entire house, according to “Primero Noticias.”

In the end, five guards were killed and two men and two women were detained. One of the women was the same cook Guzman had with him when he was detained a couple years ago, according to “Primero Noticias.”

Eventually the marines determined that the only bedroom on the first floor was Guzman’s and they began pounding on the walls and moving furniture, finding hidden doors, the show said.

His room had a king-sized bed, bags from fashionable clothing stores, bread and cookie wrappers, and medicine including injectable testosterone, syringes, antibiotics and cough syrups, the show said. The two-story house had four bedrooms and five bathrooms. There were flat-screen TVs and Internet connection throughout the house, according to “Primero Noticias.”

The Marines eventually found a hidden passageway behind a mirror, with a handle hidden in the light fixture. The handle opened a secret door, leading down into the escape tunnel, the show explained.

The escape tunnel was fully lit and led to an access door for the city sewage system, “Primero Noticias” said, adding that Guzman had at least a 20-minute head start on the Marines.

The address where Guzman was captured had been monitored for a month, Mexican Attorney General Arely Gomez has said. According to Gomez, Guzman and his lieutenant escaped through that drainage system.

“Primero Noticias” said it obtained surveillance footage showing Guzman and his lieutenant emerging from the manhole cover, where they then stole two cars to flee, the show said.

Guzman was finally caught when he and the lieutenant were stopped on a highway by Mexican Federal Police, the show said.

Authorities took them to a motel to wait for reinforcement. The men were then taken to Los Mochis airport and transfered to Mexico City.

Guzman is now back in prison as his lawyers fight his extradition to the U.S.

The drug kingpin escaped from the Altiplano prison near Mexico City on July 11, launching an active manhunt. When guards realized that he was missing from his cell, they found a ventilated tunnel and exit had been constructed in the bathtub inside Guzman’s cell. The tunnel extended for about a mile underground and featured an adapted motorcycle on rails that officials believe was used to transport the tools used to create the tunnel, Monte Alejandro Rubido, the head of the Mexican national security commission, said in July.

Guzman had been sent there after he was arrested in February 2014. He spent more than 10 years on the run after escaping from a different prison in 2001. It’s unclear exactly how he had escaped, but he did receive help from prison guards who were prosecuted and convicted.

Guzman, the leader of the Sinaloa cartel, was once described by the U.S. Treasury as “the most powerful drug trafficker in the world.” The Sinaloa cartel allegedly uses elaborate tunnels for drug trafficking and has been estimated to be responsible for 25 percent of all illegal drugs that enter the U.S. through Mexico.
