Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 video showed a shattered second-floor window and bullet holes in an Airbnb rental property at Madison Avenue and Suismon Street where police said the shooting happened. A car parked in the lot across the street also had bullet holes and a broken window.
Police said Zone 1 officers responded to multiple ShotSpotter alerts around 12:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Suismon Street. Additional shots were being registered in the area as first responders arrived on scene, and several young people were seen fleeing, police said.
“The initial investigation reveals a large party was being held at the short-term rental property, with as many as 200 people in attendance, many of them underage,” police said in a statement. “As many as 50 rounds were fired inside, prompting some party-goers to jump out the windows, sustaining injuries such as broken bones and lacerations. Several more shots were fired outside the home.”

Two male juvenile victims were pronounced dead at the hospital. Police said 10 gunshot victims, including the deceased, have been reported.
Police also said five additional people were injured as hundreds of people tried to escape the upstairs apartment.
Investigators were gathering evidence from as many as eight crime scenes spanning a few blocks in the area after the shooting in the city’s East Allegheny neighborhood.
Police say gunshot victims were located at or near the scene and were taken to hospitals by EMS and police. Additional gunshot victims arrived at hospitals by private means, according to police.

In the downstairs unit, which is separate from the upstairs and has a different owner, there were bullet holes in a bedroom and a stray bullet in the hallway.
A family who had been staying downstairs told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 that they left and went to a hotel when they saw that a party was taking place.
“Two hundred people is a lot. There’s usually a limit. For Airbnb, we would do, maybe, six to eight guests maximum, so I’m not sure how 200 people got in upstairs being undetected,” said Stephen Long, who owns the downstairs unit.
