Former President Donald Trump announced his new impeachment legal team on Sunday night after parting ways with his previous lawyers due to a disagreement over his defense strategy.
Trial lawyers David Schoen and Bruce Castor, Jr. will now defend Trump in the upcoming Senate trial with the belief that Trump’s impeachment is unconstitutional, according to a statement from the former president.
The House impeached Trump on Jan. 13, accusing him of inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol riot that left five people dead.
The trial is scheduled to get underway on Feb. 9.
Trump’s previous impeachment team pulled out of the job, Fox News reported earlier Sunday, due to a mutual decision over the direction of the defense argument.
Schoen, who specializes in civil rights cases and federal defense work, had already been assisting Trump and his advisors with the upcoming impeachment trial.
Castor is a former district attorney of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
